The Indiana Department of
Natural Resources and Rivers Advisory Group
designed Hoosier Riverkeepers, now called
Adopt-A-River, a program ringing the bell for
grassroots stewardship of Indiana rivers and
streams. The fundamental goal of Adopt-A-River
is to encourage Indiana community groups to
adopy waterways much like highways in the
Adopt-A-Highway effort. Ultimately, such
groups, with the aid of the Adopt-A-River
program, could keep riverbanks clean, educate
the piblic, and be a political presence.
If your organization would
like to become involved in the Adopt-A-River
program, please call the local Soil and Water
Conservation Districts. 659-1223 ext. 3
